According to the DMV, at any given moment throughout the day, roughly 660,000 drivers are attempting to use their cell phones or other electronic devices.

In 2018 the CDC found that one-third of drivers between the ages of 18 and 64 read or send texts messages while in traffic.

Driving experiments conducted by Car and Driver magazine, found that sober drivers who were texting took significantly longer to react to an alert than drivers with a blood alcohol content of .08, the typical legal standard for intoxication.

In other words, texting and driving is the new drinking and driving.
